DIY GREETING CARDS WITH EASY PAPER TOWEL DRIP ART

These cards are so much fun and easy to make and will surely make every Mama proud of their little ones for Mother’s Day, but of course they aren’t only for mothers! This is a great children’s craft to make for Father’s Day too, as cute greeting cards or for pretty birthday cards.

Honestly, I can’t stand food colouring and try not to use it in my recipes, but I do love to use it for craft projects. I get the liquid basic colour ones and mix different shades, and a little bit usually goes a long way.

This DIY uses an easy art process that kids love- from toddlers to older kids- where you drip some liquid paint on paper towel using eyedroppers. Depending on your kids age, they can learn how to mix different colours and use their fine motor skills to make easy patterns or fancy tie dye patterns by folding the paper towels before dripping the paint on them.

Once their artwork is dry, they can practice their cutting skills by cutting out different shapes and gluing them onto some folded construction paper to make beautiful homemade cards. The possibilities are endless, imagine cute hearts, intricate flowers or geometric shapes. Let your kids explore their creativity freely. And yes they can also learn that you get brown when you dump all the colours into the same cup- it’s all part of the process.

TIPS TO MAKE THE PERFECT DIY GREETING CARDS WITH EASY PAPER TOWEL ART

Cover your work surface with a craft mat or some old newspaper to soak up any spills.

Think about where you will put the paper towels to dry afterwards. You can lay them flat or hang them to dry outdoors.

Get everything set up before you start.

You can also use a baking sheet for an easier set up and clean up afterwards. It can get a bit messy and wet.

I recommend using sturdy cups that won’t tip over too easily.

Provide and mix only small amounts of liquid paint. A little bit goes a long way and you can always make more later.

You can fold the paper towels to get a tie dye effect.

Try making a “copy” by putting another layer on top of a coloured paper towel and pressing it down until it’s saturated in paint.

Have fun and let your kids explore.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

craft mat
baking sheet (optional)
paper towel
eyedropper
liquid food colouring
sturdy cups
construction paper
scissors
glue

INSTRUCTIONS STEP BY STEP

Cover your work surface for an easier clean up afterwards.

Fill some small sturdy cups halfway with water, add some liquid food colouring to it, and set them on a baking sheet.

Cut some paper towels in half. Fold them into quarters, triangles or fans if you’d like for a tie dye look or leave them as is.

Using one sheet at a time, add some of the paint to the eyedropper and drip (by squeezing and releasing it) a design onto your paper towel.

Set aside flat or hang to dry and repeat the process.

Cut and fold the construction paper into cards using a ruler, pencil and scissors.

Once your dyed paper towels are dried, cut out some shapes like flower petals, hearts or any other geometric shapes you would like.

Lay out your design with your cut out paper towel pieces and glue them all down.

Write and gift your paper towel art cards as needed and help put a smile on someone’s face!
