DIY FALL WREATH WITH PINECONES

The forests are starting to look breath taking and while I absolutely love all the beautiful fall colours, I need you to find some evergreen trees and collect some beautiful pinecones and seed pods for this project. It’s best to get a good selection of different sizes and types of pinecones and seed pods for this fall wreath.

I used different types and shapes of pinecones and some little alder cones for the base of my wreath and filled in the holes with some sphagnum moss. Then I decorated it with some soft pink hydrangea flowers, orange and pink spindle tree berries, and a pretty bow. Please be mindful that all parts of the spindle tree are poisonous, especially the seed capsules. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and be mindful about where you display your wreath.

This is a great wreath that will last and can be reused over time. Instead of berries and hydrangea flowers you can add some green moss and holiday ornaments and finish it off with a pretty bow to hang it up also during wintertime. TIPS TO MAKE THE PERFECT FALL WREATH WITH PINECONES

Gather everything, you will need in advance to avoid interrupting your creative flow.

Cover your work surface with some old newspaper or an arts and crafts mat in case it gets a bit messy.

If your pinecones are very sticky from the sap you can wash them in vinegar water (half vinegar half water) and let them dry thoroughly before using them.

Make sure to have enough material. The amount of material you will need depends on the size of your wreath base and how full you want it. It’s always better to have too much than not enough materials at hand.

Make sure to step back and take a look at the big picture during your wreath making, since it is easy to get lost in small details. That way you can ensure your wreath is nice and balanced and has the desired volume.

You can always refine your wreath at the end by tucking in some more materials later.

Trust your creativity and follow your creative instincts. Enjoy the creative process just as much as the end result and let go of any fixed ideas. Be open to incorporate new materials or some you might already have and play around with different colors and textures.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

wreath base
hot glue gun and glue sticks
pinecones in different sizes
alder cones or other seed pods
sphagnum or other moss
spindle tree berries
bow or ribbon
garden snips

INSTRUCTIONS STEP BY STEP

Cover your work surface and gather all your materials.

Start building up your wreath by glueing different pinecones lengthwise onto your wreath base using your glue gun.

Making sure the outside of the wreath is going to be nice and round keep glueing more pinecones onto the base, sprinkling in some smaller cones or seed pods as well. Stepping back once in a while to see the wreath and its shape from afar helps to keep it nicely balanced.

Once you have your wreath base filled completely, you can fill in the small holes with some sphagnum or other moss.

Decorate your wreath with some hydrangea flowers and spindle tree berries or other materials you collected.

Add a nice bow or ribbon to hang the wreath if you would like and find the perfect spot for your brand-new fall wreath with pinecones and enjoy!
